This Miniature Kingfisher Mask on Base by Patrick Amos preserves the essence of Nuu-chah-nulth mask design while reimagining it for contemporary presentation. The controlled formline unfolds in a vivid palette of blue, evoking both water and the bird it represents. Hammered cedar bark and feathers add texture and movement, animating the surface with tactile presence. The inlaid eyes, likely resin or glass beads, catch and scatter light, creating a luminous focal point that recalls the older practice of shell or operculum inlay while giving the work a modern shimmer.
