While some arctic species are depicted with more discernable and recognizable features, some stray into more abstract territory. Untitled Drawing (Red Lemming with Curious Hooks) features a bold, heavily worked-in coloured lemming that is outlined in graphite, but the similarity to the arctic rodent ends there; the face has been reduced to simple shapes, paws are blocks of white pencil crayon, and claws are replaced with slim hooks. Very present on the page, there is a slight menacing air to this lemming, far from their more furtive, fearful nature!Provenance
Feheley Fine Arts, Toronto, their inventory number, "CPT 1389" inscribed verso;
Acquired from the above by John and Joyce Price, Seattle.
