The shape of the peaked, knob-top lid is almost reminiscent of a historic whaling hat rendered in miniature scale. Nuu-chah-nulth baskets have long been staples of the Northwest Coast art market, with the most sought-after pieces featuring brightly dyed and complex pictorial storytelling, such as on this example.
