Sister of carver Andy Aulatjut and wife of renowned sculptor Andy Miki, she endured the community’s...Mary Kahootsuak Miki was born into the nomadic Ihalmiut (Caribou Inuit) at Ennadai Lake. Sister of carver Andy Aulatjut and wife of renowned sculptor Andy Miki, she endured the community’s tragic starvation in the 1950s and subsequent rescue, relocating to Rankin Inlet before settling in Arviat. She began carving in the late 1950s and is renowned for works featuring the female figure in graceful poses with fluid yet powerful contours.
