Although the species is not native to Puvirnituq, he would have encountered it on travels south to the treeline around Kuujjuaraapik (Great Whale River). What’s remarkable is how often he returned to the motif while making each owl unmistakably his, each with its own presence and personality. In the present work, the bird is mature and statuesque, poised with a calm, regal self-assurance. Gorgeous.
Provenance
Collection of a prominent Montreal businessman, and probably obtained directly from the Fédération des coopératives du Nouveau-Québec with the assistance of Mr. Peter Murdoch;
by descent in the family to the present Private Collection, Montreal.
