The present lot is part of a 1960s wave of small, purpose-built objects that joined practicality with a maker’s imagination, this pair of bookends by Abraham Nastapoka resolves function through two compact dog heads set atop plinths. Each head is carved as a concentrated mass, the muzzle pushed forward so the bookend reads as both weight and presence. The mouths open to show sharp teeth, yet the almost lips turn upward, tipping the expression toward a grin rather than threat.
