By flaring the top of the basket, Clement creates a dramatic form that exaggerates and stretches the lines of a standard urn-shaped Hooper Bay basket. The dense pattern seen here is a trademark of Clement’s weaving practice. The design features eight “spokes” that form a spiral on the knob-top lid and radiate out over the entire basket. The diagonal “spokes” then merge into the horizontal lines encircling the basket, creating a complex and visually intense reticulating pattern across the whole form.
