Born to an artistic family, Tony Hunt's training and contributions to the artform was practically guaranteed. His training began with his maternal grandfather, Chief Mungo Martin (1879-1962), and later apprenticed with his own father, Henry Hunt (1923-1985), and take on the position of "First Carver" for Thunderbird Park at the Royal British Columbia Museum, a position that had been created for his grandfather, and had also passed on to his father and brother Richard Hunt (1951- ) previously. A prolific artist in a variety of media, Tony created several prints featuring clan crest animals and local wildlife to his home on the West Coast, including the prickly Sculpin found in fresh water along the coast. This armoured fish not only carries spines along their heads and bodies, but some local varieties also have extensive patches of small cirri covering their skin, giving them a furry appearance, something Tony has highlighted is this work!
