The forelegs...This muskox is held at the instant before it rears. The mass is set back, packed into the hindquarters, and the body gathers into a dense, forward-leaning block. The forelegs draw in close under the chest and read as ready to leave the ground. The head thrusts out and the neck swells into a thick column, while the belly line opens into a small wedge that suggests a braced pause and an imminent push.
The brown stone strengthens the composition with the less polished band along the flank reads like a heavy coat falling in rough sheets. Fine veining runs across the surface and breaks the bulk with natural lines, so the material gives the figure both heft and texture.
