Known for creating figures out of caribou antler, Luke Anowtalik's minimalist, sometimes amorphous spirits and animals can either be of a diminutive scale, or practically one with the antler it was carved from. Here in Composition with Figures, faces and arms peak from the pale antler using tiny holes to represent the eyes and mouths, and small protruding limbs, minimizing the invasiveness of the work from the material. Rather than being simple or lazy in its production, Composition with Figures has multiple columns of beings that provide multiple places for the viewer to land. There is almost a sense of levitation in the work as sets of eyes pop from the antler and bodies splay out from the points, further added by the dog's floating body, leaping between the rising columns. Almost imbued with life, Composition with Figures has some playfulness to it as the the groups within it congregate and move.
