As he is no stranger to a tender scene of familial love, the central theme within Inuit Art that is Mother & Child is an oft repeated one by Mathew Aqigaaq. With gentle curves and details having been brought out of the hard Qamani'tuaq Basalt, the present Mother and Child is imbued with the same love and affection we have come to expect from him. Simple at first glance, this mother keeps her child close and warm in her amauti, a smile on both their faces as the child leans over the mother's shoulder for a better view of what's ahead. Her hand is raised to her hood, there is perhaps a pause in their journey to reassure and readjust.
