This tightly woven, Tlingit basketry covered bottle features four false imbricated banded designs: the “shaman’s hat” pattern on top, bottom, and neck of the bottle, and “the leaves of the fireweed” pattern in the centre. The bottle underneath appears to be a liquor or wine bottle with an interesting, desirable shape. The spruce roots have a deep patina from handling and oxidation over many years, and the basketry itself is in wonderful, intact condition for its age.Provenance
From the collection of a former curator at the Glenbow Museum, Calgary;
by descent in the family.
