Loom beading, a long-used technique that is still in use today is not an adaptation of a European technique, rather a form of single-needle weaving. In early iterations, the work was done with a series of threads across a bow made from a tree branch (the warp), holding them under tension, and eventually evolving onto a simple rectangular wooden frame tied together at the corners allowing for the weft to be woven across the warp. While the technique can be basic, beautiful geometric designs can be achieved, as well as repeats and scene work, as a maker wishes. Here, a repeated X is mirrored in colour and placement, almost tricking the eye as you look it over. Having been left on the loom, the warp threads are exposed, showcasing the technique further.
