From the outset, the work reads as intimate and protective. A mother and child are gathered into one compact form, their bodies pressed close. The mother settles with a grounded weight, while the child emerges from the amautiq hood and leans in at the shoulder and neck. The faces, consistent with Irkok’s style, are pared back to essentials, yet tender expression is clearly present. The stone has been carefully worked and well polished to a matte sheen so that light rests gently the surface.
