While it is easy to point to artistic influences surrounding his upbringing and community as having dictated his own artistic style, Saul Williams employs a draughtsmanship to create his works on paper that firmly stamps the works as his own. In Bleeding Loon, blocks of colour are surrounded and highlighted with almost calligraphic strokes of black and red, framing the various parts of the bird's anatomy. The Loon, bright eyed and head back, cries out as blood flows from a deep wound on its neck. As two spirits cry out in solidarity with the Loon's pain, there is a more tangible sense of the anguish coming from the paper.
