Unsigned, yet attributed to Sharky Nuna on the basis of an affixed label, this portrait bust represents an unusual subject within the artist's documented oeuvre. Best known for his abstracted animals and transformation subjects, Nuna is not widely associated with depictions of the human figure. If correctly attributed, the sculpture offers a rare glimpse of a lesser-known aspect of his artistic production. Broad, simplified planes and spare incised features convey a strong sense of presence, demonstrating the same economy of form that characterizes his better-known carvings.
