He was known to combine minimalist abstraction of his early years with a more “modern” conceptual abstraction, creating a body of work that was at once innovative and distinctive as his own. This work, which bares some slight resemblances to works of George's contemporaries with Pangnark and Lucy Tasseor Tutsweetok, shows his more of his characteristic later works with its abstracted forms weaving in and out of the tall totem. Unlike much of his later work, and frankly unlike most of his work, this piece has height at a towering foot tall! George also wanted to make sure there was no doubt as to whether the base was deliberate, signing both the totem and the base, leaving nothing to discussion in the finished product.
