Polar bears have long been among the most familiar subjects in Inuit sculpture, admired for their strength, intelligence and commanding presence. In this work, Letia Koonoo Tagornak emphasizes the animal's deliberate movement through simplified forms and a forward-leaning stance that suggests steady progress across the ice. The minimal modelling and balanced proportions reflect the direct, uncomplicated approach to animal sculpture that characterizes much of the work produced in Repulse Bay during this period.
