The original image...Amiarutiit (Brushes) was the first of Samayualie’s prints to appear in the Annual Print Collection. Modest in scale, it has the concentrated presence of a still life. The original image began as an arrangement of brushes made during an art class, then returned to by the artist in preparation for an etching workshop. In the finished print, the chine collé allows for a close rendering of the wood handles and dense brush hairs, giving ordinary studio tools the weight and attention usually reserved for living subjects.Provenance
