As can be seen today in events such as the Paddle to...This Coast Salish model canoe likely comes from the Puget Sound or Olympic Peninsula regions of Washington State. As can be seen today in events such as the Paddle to Seattle, dugout cedar canoes remain a central feature in the cultural lives and livelihoods of Coast Salish peoples throughout their territories. The larger model canoe is carved out of one piece of red cedar with a prow that’s been formed into the head, ears, and long snout of a canid of some sort. This canoe comes with four (4) well carved miniature paddles and one (1) larger steering paddle.
