As Lucy Tasseor Tutsweetok approached her sixties, she began moving towards a subtle and more refined technique of carving in very low relief using a grinder, a move away from the high relief that had characterized her work for years. While faces and figures still appear from stone, these later works gave the feel of having them emerge from the stone, almost "etching" its surface. In the present Family Group, spare articulation of faces almost materializes from the stone as if naturally there. The work as a whole has been worked over to a pleasing smoothness, maintaining a generally round shape.
