A deep red...Much like Lot 75 in this sale, this Quilled Lidded Basket is a wonderful example of how a minimal but strong colour palette can make a design. A deep red stands against white quills, both as a repeating pattern on the lid, and a band of alternating lines along the lid and body of the basket. The lid is carefully arranged to take advantage of the natural two-toned look of the quills so that there is depth in the design, and further punch against the red. With less colour and pattern to hide any mistakes, this basket shows a steady hand, the final product being a reward of both patience and control.Provenance
