The dense, dark stone and compact silhouette are characteristic of the period, yet the carving resists easy attribution. It is less emphatically stylized than the work of Kiugak or Qaqaq, though there are passing suggestions of Niviaqsi and Kiakshuk. One might also wonder whether it could be an early work by Aoudla Pee or Qaunaq Mikkigak.
The amautiq gives the sculpture much of its form. Its broad body gathers the woman into a solid, almost columnar mass, while the large hood rises behind the head like a soft stone crest. Face, hands, and clothing are sparingly described, with shallow cuts and slight shifts of surface doing most of the work. The figure feels at once rudimentary and refined, bluntly carved yet beautifully balanced. Its worn surface, softened edges, and compressed form give the piece a particular physical appeal. Very little has been said in stone, and very little more was needed.
