It comes from a period in the mid-20th century when many artists were selling through curio shops and carving to meet market expectations by blending a lot of different tribal and regional styles. There are aspects of this pole that suggest it may be a Tsimshian pole, but also other features that argue for a Wakashan or even Coast Salish origin. Whatever the case, this is an attractive pole by an accomplished, if currently not identified, maker.
