Inscribed...Dating from quite early in the artist's career, probably around 1969, Double-Aspect Figure belongs to a small group of works conceived to be seen in more than one position. Inscribed by the artist on the "feet" with the co-op registration number, it would originally have been accompanied by an igloo tag bearing the corresponding stock number.
The sculpture shifts between prostrate and upright display, and with each turn the form seems to settle differently into itself. Sharp cuts and compact angles give way to swells, smooth slopes and rounded passages. Small enough to sit easily in the hand, it invites handling and turning, yet when set down it has surprising weight, solidity and fullness. Its pleasure lies in that constant change of aspect, as one compact body yields another with the slightest shift in position.
