Despite the connections made to other artists, his own hand is evident in his work, particularly in the details and character of his creations. This Shaman, solid in stance and resolve, bares his teeth and his tools to the viewer, his beater and rattle held firm. His body and face are sharply defined, as are the smaller details throughout the work, such as the rattle's face and the Shaman's tied back hair. With bent knees and fists poised, the gentle shake of rattle stones can almost be heard as he is ready to face his foes.
