Part of the brilliance of Osuitok’s artistry was his ability to change up his sculptural style and imagery. We believe that this approach to making art kept his interest keen and his work constantly fresh. Clearly he adapted his style to different materials as well. His work in harder stones such as marble and this Markham Bay stone are by necessity less detailed, with broader sculptural masses. However, far from being deterred by technical challenges, Osuitok has in fact imbued Swimming Sedna with her Child with a remarkable degree of tenderness and lyricism.
