The precision in Kenojuak’s drawing and Qavavau Manumie’s decoration of the plate coincide for an effector of absolute splendor in "Luminous Char." For its detail, Qavavau's pitting of the stone plate creates an interesting visual of inked and negative space to denote of the scales of the char. To adorn Kenojuak’s carefully delineated decorative “fins”, Qavavau has chosen a brilliant blue and rich red, which vibrate against one another without fully merging into a single hue.
The same print of a different edition was displayed together with the drawing and stone block in the recent show "Tunirrusiangit: Kenojuak Ashevak and Tim Pitsiulak" (Art Gallery of Ontario, 2018). The ability to view all three of the steps in the creation of a print served as a testament to the importance of collaboration Kinngait printmaking. While Kenojuak is no doubt the driving creative force, she relied on the printers, in this case Qavavau, to bring her vision to reality.
