There is a sense of movement in Courting Loon so palpable it feels as though the image itself is in motion, as if we might reach out and touch the wind stirred by the bird’s trajectory. The stems of the flowers bend and blow back with such force that they become extensions of the loon’s momentum, its forward lurch rendering the bouquet it carries almost alive. In the bird’s seemingly smiling beak, the floral arrangement transcends its simple form, bursting into a kaleidoscopic display of colour—greens and blues twist together in exuberant lines, their tips swelling into buds that bloom in vivid reds and pinks. The flowers do not simply exist here; they revel, exploding into patterns that feel both rapturous and deliberate, an orchestration of beauty caught in flight.
