In contrast to many of the vibrant hues of Kenojuak’s other works in this exhibition, we associate the dominant colours of "Dancing Ravens" — green, ochre, soft grey, and beige — with earth and vegetation. Though substantially more restrained in its palette, colour is no less an important vehicle for communication. The splayed feathers of the two birds are rendered in tight proximity, making the image appear to flicker and surge. Printer Qavavau Manumie’s use of sonorous earth tones tempers the palpable rhythm of the lively dance of this feathered duo.
