While her work as a graphic artist is well documented, Nipi’s sculptural oeuvre is far less known. Indeed, had this sculpture not been clearly signed, one might wonder whether this...While her work as a graphic artist is well documented, Nipi’s sculptural oeuvre is far less known. Indeed, had this sculpture not been clearly signed, one might wonder whether this sculpture hails from Arviat rather than Qamani’tuaq for, at first glance, there is an “all-overness” to the piece that feels more Eskimo Point than Baker Lake. On closer inspection however, one notices the sensuously convex faces reminiscent of Mathew Aqigaaq and the composition reminiscent of late 1970’s Barnabus Arnasungaaq. A truly imposing piece by a woman deserving greater recognition!Provenance
