The composition is striking in its simplicity, featuring a man and woman depicted in a stylized manner, seated on stools, which adds an everyday domestic element to the scene. The restrained colour scheme, applied with stencil by Eegyvudluk Pootoogook, is minimal yet impactful, with the deep, earthy tones grounding the figures and giving them a strong presence against the neutral background.
The woman, facing the viewer, prominently features an amautiq flap and hood, which adds cultural depth to the depiction. Meanwhile, the man, shown in profile, offers a contrast in perspective that complements the frontal portrayal of the woman. This juxtaposition of viewpoints creates a dynamic balance within the print. A large bird perches observantly above the man and woman. This serves not only to oversee the couple but also cleverly draws the viewer’s gaze towards the centre of the composition, where the hands of the figures reach toward one another, presumably to engage in an intimate interlock.
