A finely woven and charming lidded basket that features duck or seabird designs around its centre with a whirl design on the lid. Nuu-chah-nulth baskets were a major staple of the late 19th and 20th century curio trade in the Pacific Northwest. Known for detailed animal figures and geometric designs, Nuu-chah-nulth baskets often depict whale hunting scenes and other important cultural activities and features. The bottom of this basket, made primarily of grass, shows a plaited red cedar bark starter on the bottom.
