Makah and Nuu-chah-nulth weavers were prolific makers of objects for the art market throughout the 20th century. This open-top basket is woven in dyed bear grass with a plaited cedar bottom. The geometric pattern on this basket is woven in purple and yellow dyed grasses and is composed of three fields: alternating rows of purple and yellow banding along the top, a reticulating pattern of yellow and purple in the centre, and another band mirroring the top design along the bottom. There is some significant fading to the pattern in the centre of this basket, but it is in otherwise good condition.
