Here, the polished smoothness of the animals contrasts beautifully with the porous texture of the whale bone base, creating a tactile interplay of materials. Subtle black inlay defines the animals’ features, drawing our focus to the polar bear’s intent gaze and the seal’s vulnerable stillness. The charm of the creatures, including the skulking bear, almost distracts us from the danger of the scene.
