Departing from much of his other compositions that employ multiple viewpoints, Anguhadluq here uses a singular perspective, crafting a focused narrative that invites viewers to observe, with reverence, three women.
The tunniit, or facial tattoos, rendered with careful attention, reflect traditional Inuit practices, symbolizing rites of passage and social status among women. Similarly, the ulu, or women’s knife, prominently featured yet not actively used by any figure, hovers symbolically within the composition. This deliberate placement elevates the ulu from a utilitarian object to a revered emblem of womanhood.
Through these elements, Anguhadluq transcends simple representation, conveying a profound reverence for the integral role of women within Inuit communities.
