Donat Anawak was a busy man throughout his life; while balancing an artistic career, Donat also served on the Settlement Council for Kangiqliniq (Rankin Inlet), worked in the local mine,...Donat Anawak was a busy man throughout his life; while balancing an artistic career, Donat also served on the Settlement Council for Kangiqliniq (Rankin Inlet), worked in the local mine, and upon its closure joined the Arts and Crafts Program, eventually becoming a Shop Supervisor. Some will recognize Donat's name and style from his ceramic work, but we contend that this bear belongs in that sample of recognition. Carved form the hard local stone found around Kangiqliniq, Bear has stocky legs and a simple face, almost a caricature of a bear, much like his ceramic work.
