One of Canada’s most prominent living artists, the carver is the great-grandson of Charles Edenshaw and began carving at age thirteen under the guidance of his father, Claude Davidson. The present work reflects the artist’s early mastery of form and design. The pole features a human figure, a raven and sun motif, and a beaver with a human face emerging from its tail, each element rendered with exceptional detail and control, all the more impressive considering the artist was only twenty-one at the time of its creation.
