In Caught Together: Whale and Seal in a Net, Davidialuk Alasua Amittu presents a striking composition of two marine animals entwined in a carefully incised net. The netting is crisply carved across the bodies of the whale and seal, binding them in a moment of shared fate.

Davidialuk returned often to images of animals caught in nets or traps, though the symbolic implications remain open to interpretation. Whether read as a narrative moment, a reflection on human-animal relationships, or a broader meditation on entanglement and survival, there is something almost comical about the work. The exaggerated roundness of the bodies and their wide, surprised eyes lend the scene a hint of levity, softening the gravity of their predicament and inviting the viewer to pause between empathy and amusement.
