    Born into a family of Kimmirut artists, Sandy Akavak is known for his beautiful carvings and finely crafted scrimshaw work. Despite his obvious talents as an artist, he was never prolific. Now retired, Akavak was one of the most highly decorated RCMP Special Constables, a job that kept him otherwise occupied.
