Art Thompson is considered one of the best designers of the modern era, particularly for his innate understanding of classic Nuu-chah-nulth forms. There was a natural talent within him as a designer and illustrator, which aided him in his personal and contemporary contributions to the artform, eventually becoming a notable presence in the Indigenous art world. While his sculpted works are well finished with beautiful painted details that highlight the three dimensional surfaces, his printwork and drawings truly show a fine hand. In Twin Wolves, the two figures flow on the page, their lines are at once the classically sharp black and red forms and lines, and free flowing across the paper. Mirrored almost exactly to each other, they could well be a nod to Art's own heritage, as he was a member of the Tlukwana or Wolf Society.
