This basket's large flat lid provided for a larger canvas upon which a design could be made, and the artist took full advantage by having two stems sprout several flowers. Fully bloomed flowers surround a few buds in an asymmetric arrangement, as bright pops of yellow shine out of the white petals. While Calla Lilies themselves are not indigenous to North America, they do have a local equivalent in the Wild calla, a perennial that grows along the edges
of bogs and wetlands.
Provenance
An Ontario Collection.
