The crown is built in dense, tightly controlled twining, interrupted by narrow bands of openwork and spaced twining...This exceptionally refined hat combines technical precision with a rich decorative surface. The crown is built in dense, tightly controlled twining, interrupted by narrow bands of openwork and spaced twining that give the surface a wonderful sense of lightness. Red and blue geometric motifs, worked in false embroidery, appear at regular intervals around the crown, while the broad scalloped brim introduces purple supplementary accents and a finely worked edge in red, green, and maroon thread.What is especially striking is how beautifully the colour has survived. The dyed fibres remain remarkably strong and saturated, preserving the contrast between the cool blues and purples, the vivid reds, and the warm natural ground. The result is a hat whose patterning still reads with extraordinary freshness, revealing the weaver’s control of colour, spacing, texture, and form at every turn. Remarkable.
