His arctic bovine have an exaggerated blockiness to their shape, mimicking their slightly amorphous fur covered bodies in a delightfully charming way. In the present example, the flat plane of mottled green stone eventually gives way to the small curves and scallops of the fur coat, a set of cloven appendages peaking out from under it. The facial features are subtle in their depth of carving, blending with the veins in the stone, while the bright white horns crown the muskox. There is a defiance in the standing stance, as much as there is a delight to it.
