At that point, she moved from coloured pencil to pastel pencil, embracing its richer intensity and taking particular pleasure in working on black paper. Seen alongside her sculpture, these drawings come as something of a revelation. Their vivid colour and imaginative energy feel worlds away from the restraint of her stone carvings, with little obvious overlap in subject matter. Yet one senses the same artist at work in both, as though the drawings gave form to an inner world that remained only partly spoken in stone.Provenance
