Variously, the embroidery prevents the broad areas of appliqué from ever feeling flat or static. Repeated V-shaped fly stitches animate the animals’ bodies, suggesting fur while introducing a lively pattern across each form. Fine lines of contrasting thread define clothing, facial features and tools, while longer straight stitches articulate fringe, seams and the blocks of the snow house. Around the perimeter, a bold dual-coloured looped edge stitch frames the entire composition.
