Made from the flexible twigs...Originally crafted as hunting decoys by Cree communities in the James Bay region, the Tamarack Goose has become a charming addition to many a collection. Made from the flexible twigs of the tamarack tree (Larix laricina), a rare deciduous conifer, twigs are carefully bundled and tied into shape to resemble Canada geese or snow geese. This present example strays away from the more utilitarian shape of the decoys with spread wings and defined, feathered edges. A long, almost elegant neck guides the body forward in flight as this goose hangs in the air, likely gently swaying on an unseen breeze.Provenance
